Future doctors

Assalamualaikum.
All praises to Allah. and peace be upon His messenger.

Greetings ;)

Yes, its the first paper tomorrow and I can still blog. Well, this is just a short 5 minutes break.

Anyway, my classmates and I had this assignment on analyzing workplace conversation. And we are asked to surf the net and look for www.bfm.my website, which is a very famous website among our lecturers, but not among us. It is like hitz, and mix, and red, and hot and sinar fm all. It is named, Business f.m. 89.9. The topics that they discussed are actually very interesting and helpful to all as it does not only discuss on business matters all the time, it also involves current issues, language, and lots more.

So, because it is a pair work, my partner and I did on current issues regarding medical houseman. We downloaded the podcast, which can be downloaded and listen to anytime you want, that is one good thing about this station. The interview was held on 8 June 2012, if I'm not mistaken, between Dr. Milton from the Malaysian Medical Council and BFM DJ, Kathleen Tan.

Below are some info that I found interesting and useful for us to know, especially if you are a medical houseman or future doctor.

1. there has been a marked increased in the number of housemen in the country. In 2009, there were 3150 housemen registered with the Malaysian Medical counsel, 3257 in 2010 and 3714 in 2011

2. in 2002, Malaysia has 9 medical schools. In 2007, 12 medical schools. This year, 34 medical schools. Now, compare that with the number of medical schools in countries which have similar size population that Malaysia has. Take Australia for instance, with the population of 23million, they have 26 medical schools. Saudi Arabia which has the same population as Malaysia has 16 medical schools. Canada which has 35million population has 16 medical schools. So, by any stretch of the imagination, one can only conclude that there are too many medical schools in Malaysia.

3. the chances of harm in healthcare is 1 in 300, the chances of harm from hospitalization is 1 in 10. These are the figures from the World Health Organization (WHO). So, medicine today is effective but, it also has a potential of harm. It is quite important that you have quality doctors to provide healthcare. Numbers are not going to help address a problem.

4. we(Based on Malaysian Medical Council) do have problems with doctors who cannot cope until about five years ago there were very few doctors were referred to the Malaysian Medical Counsel because of mental or physical health problems

5. medical schools all have social responsibilities to ensure that the graduates they produced are graduates of good quality because in the final analysis these graduates are going to treat you and me, the whole populations are potential patients

6. they have to undergo a five-year medical course, two-year housemanship and after housemanship they are just starting on the road to practicing medicine

7. housemanship is a time of where the newly graduated doctor transition from theory to practice. And learning during housemanship is not just from books and journals but also experiential

To get more info, just go to their website at www.bfm.my and look for a podcast under current issue. or you can simply leave your email and I'll email you the interview. So, take note young docs!

English for Professional Communication

Assalamualaikum wbt All praises to Allah SWT and His Messenger Greetings readers! As stated above, in this entry I would like to share about the course that I am taking at present. It is a course from the Academy of Language Studies at Universiti Teknologi Mara(UiTM). It is very rare to find people that know about this course. Dialogue 1 A: Eh, what are you studying now? Me: English for Prof Comm A: ...........??? So, what is that actually? Dialogue 2 A: Anyway, what are you taking now? Me: Language studies A: Oh.. TESL eh. Me: ....................... or very very very rare, Dialogue 3 A: What course did you take? Me: English for Prof Comm A: Ohh..ok. As you see, this course is not as popular as others like law, engineering, medicine, dental, education and others, which everyone knows of. But, it is a fun and interesting course to learn. Believe me. And if you are really good in English, which I am still working on t...

Sleepless night to remember

Assalamulaikum wbt All praises to Allah SWT and His Messenger Hello. Upon writing this post, I am at a state where I can no longer open my eyes to continue doing my work. My friends and I are at Level 9 Menara at this late hour, yup (for those who know the history.........hahahaa.....). It's kind of our lepak place for wifi, for just us. Alhamdulillah. Our journey are coming to its end. So far, we are done with two of our professional presentations. It was a nerve-wrecking and sleepless experience on preparing the text and searching for information and practice and what not for the presentation. Nevertheless, I enjoy every last moment of it. Even now, it is just so difficult to finish up my thesis and do the amendments needed, I choose not to fret and just keep on continuing these difficult times as I believe I will be reminiscing these times later in the future. InsyaAllah, everything will end this Monday. My prayers to all of us, myself and my friends, that we...

Prom Night

Assalamualaikum wbt All praises to Allah SWT and His Messenger And so, our konon2 Prom Night was a fun night. We actually called it Pre-Graduation Dinner plus also combining the dinner with the Dean's Award recipients.  It sounds funny when you called it Prom Night. For me when it is called as such, it sounds Americanish , wild and western .hahaa. But it is also suitable to be called as such to show it was a celebrated night and because the theme for that night was Tie, Suit and Dresses , I know, nice wasn't it. And the dinner, it was not the place or the food that we would fret about or be bossy about later on, its the people and the friends and the pictures that we will talk about again and again, it will be the memory that we will probably recall in the future, the almost last moment of a student life.hahaa. And guess what, just after the dinner, we the gals went and lepak for a while for a short kopi session just to end the night nicely. Wahh, a night to rem...
